Gulu City Farmers Get 80 Metric Tonnes Of OWC Seeds

Over 13,000 farmers in Gulu City are set to benefit from free seeds from the Government under the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) programme for the second planting season.

Gulu City Council will receive 80 metric tonnes of seeds, that will be distributed to the farmers in the two divisions of Gulu City.

The consignment includes 8,000 kgs of maize, 15,000 kgs of soybean, 1,000 kgs of sunflower, 25,000 kgs of groundnuts, 500 kgs of sim sim and 1,000 kgs of bean seeds, and will be shared equally with 40 metric tonnes for Bardege-Layibi Division and 40 metric tonnes for Pece-Laroo Division.

According to the Principal Agricultural Officer, Alfred Komakech, a total of 9,342 farmers in Bardege-Layibi and 4,345 farmers in Pece-Laroo have been registered to benefit from the distribution.

The distribution exercise kicked off on Monday in Pece-Laroo Division with farmers receiving their seeds at Pakwelo and Pageya Primary Schools in the morning, Bungatira Primary School in the afternoon, and also at Koro Sub-county Headquarters and Koro Primary School in Pageya Ward.
