Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Raphael P’Mony Wokorach, the Bishop of Nebbi Diocese as the new Archbishop of Gulu replacing his grace Dr. John Baptist Odama who has hit the retirement age of 75.
Wokorach who is a Comboni Missionary of the heart of Jesus, was announced as the new Archbishop during an event held at St Joseph Catholic cathedral in Gulu city this afternoon.
In the pope’s speech read by Archbishop Odama, Odama was appointed as the apostolic administrator of Gulu Archdiocese until April 10th when Wokorach is enthroned.
Odama served as the first metropolitan Archbishop of Gulu for 25 years from 1999-2024.
Odama was the first bishop of the diocese of Nebbi for three years from 1996-1999.
He was born in 1947 and was first ordained a priest from Arua diocese in 1974.
Meanwhile, Bishop Wokorach was born in 1961 and was ordained a priest in 1993, appointed bishop of the diocese of Nebbi in 2021.
Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nunciature expressed gratitude to Odama for his generous service for 25years.
