Gulu-A woman has been detained at Bardege-Layibi Police Station in Gulu City over the death of her 10 days old baby girl.
The suspect only identified as Catherine was arrested on Thursday morning for allegedly placing her baby in a basin containing hot water at 8:00pm on Wednesday.
Reports say that Catherine rushed the baby to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor where he died at midnight that same Wednesday.
Kamba Amir, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner in charge of Bardege-Layibi division confirmed the report saying the suspect is being detained on charges of murder at Bardege-Layibi police station.
According to the 2023 police annual crime, a total of 4,248 cases of homicide were registered in the country.
Of the 4,366 persons victims of Homicide 3,381 were Male Adults while 599 were Female Adults, 248 were Male Juveniles while 138 were Female Juveniles.
