Car Number plate thieves strike again

Thieves targeting car registration plates have hit Gulu City and its suburbs again, leaving car owners distressed.

The latest incident happened on Thursday night in Pawel Cell in Laroo-Pece Division.

The thieves pluck off car’s number plates with the intention of extorting money from them after leaving behind their telephone contacts.

The always leave behind a note asking each of the victims to send between 100,000 and 200,000 shillings to an Airtel mobile number.

They also threatened to destroy or dump the car plates in a pit latrine if the victims did not send the money.

A fortnight ago, police picked two men suspected to be behind the recent wave of car registration number plates theft.

Peter Banya, the Gulu Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Laroo-Pece Division said efforts were underway to hunt for the suspects behind the rampant theft of car registration plates.
