Government has suspended the operations of Nile Star Bus Limited for 30 days following a fatal accident which left seven people dead in Nwoya district.

The May 4th 2026 accident was the 11th in which Nile Star buses were involved in leaving 56 people dead and 91 injured in the past one year.

The suspension which took effect on Wednesday 6th May this year at 6pm, for 30 days was announced by Fred Byamukama, the State Minister for Transport, citing a worrying pattern of repeated fatal crashes involving the company buses.

Byamukama said that the accident pattern shows a systemic failure and disregard for road safety standards.

According to the 2025 Police Annual Crime report, a total of 26,044 road traffic crashes were reported and 5,383 road traffic deaths were reported to Police in 2025.
