Police in Gulu City are holding Harriet Nasolo, a Laboratory Assistant attached to Bardege Health Centre III over negligence of duty and acting in unprofessional manner.
Nasolo was arrested on Thursday following a directive from Kamba Amir, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner in charge of Bardege-Layibi division.
Nasolo is accused of insulting the deputy RCC-Amir after he rebuked her for talking on phone for several hours while several patients were waiting for service.
According to Kamba Amir, he went to the health facility for treatment as any other patient when Nasolo, who was supposed to attend to patients, was on phone for more than two hours unbothered as patients wait on the line.
According to a report from the health facility, Nasolo was last year apprehended over the same matter but later pardon.
Nasolo has been charged with negligence of duty and acting in an unprofessional manner.
The arrest comes follows the arrest of Ambrose Otim, a clinical officer attached to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital on Tuesday after appearing at work while drunk. According to section 114 of the penal code act, any person who, being employed in a public body or a company in which the Government has shares, neglects to perform any duty which he or she is required to perform by virtue of such employment, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.
