Police in Gulu City are holding a28-year-old man on allegations of defiling a 3-year-old girl from Pece Pawel central Cell in Laroo-Pece Division.
The suspect Okot Emmy Odoki is alleged to have defiled the three-year-old girl on Tuesday from unfinished structure where he abandoned the victim.
Okot had reportedly gone to buy cassava chips from the child’s mother when he took advantage of the many customers and disappeared with the child to the unfinished structure where he defiled her.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West regional police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of the suspect saying that he will be charged with aggravated defilement.
According to Mudong, Okot was arrested with the help of the area local leaders and the community after the child was discovered in the unfinished structure.
According to section 129 of the penal code act, any person who unlawfully has sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of eighteen years commits an offence and is liable to suffer death.
According to the 2024 police annual crime report, a total of 12,312 cases of Defilement were reported to Police in 2024, compared to 12,771 cases in 2023
