The State Minister for Works and Transport Musa Ecwero on Thursday presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a security road in Agago district aimed at improving security in the border-line sub-counties near the Karamoja sub-region.
The road will serve sub-counties in both Agago and Kitgum districts, including Adilang, Lira-Kato, Lapono, Paimol, Omiya-Pacwa, and Orom.
Upon completion, it will significantly help in the pacification of East Acholi Sub Region which since time immemorial has been grappling with persistent Karamojong attacks which has led to loss of lives and theft of domestic animals by the cattle raiders.
Ecweru believes that the opening of the security road will spur development in the area, as it will not only ease the work of security men pursuing cattle rustlers but also connect business people to markets.
The expeditious work on the road follows a directive from President Yoweri Museveni to the cabinet that work on the security road should start immediately, after numerous appeals from leaders and locals about its importance in averting cattle raids by Karamojong.
