The Territorial Police in Lira District are investigating a case of suspected murder by assault following the discovery of the body of a 44-year-old man at Awiodyek Swamp in Awiodyek B Village, Awiodyek Sub-County.
The deceased has been identified as Ongenyo Tonny, a resident of the same area.
Preliminary police findings indicate that Ongenyo left home on Saturday but did not return home prompting his son to report the case to the police on Sunday.
Later that day while Ongenyo’s son and his brother were taking cattle to Awiodyek swamp for water, they notice a strong unpleasant smell and upon following the smell, they discovered the body of their farther lying on his back naked in a decomposing state.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson confirmed the report saying no suspect has been arrested in connection to the suspected murder of Ongenyo.
Okema said they suspect that the deceased was assaulted to death before being dumped in the swamp.
