One Killed, Three Injured in Fatal Shooting in Kole

The Territorial Police in Kole District are investigating a fatal shooting at Lwala Trading Centre in Ayer Sub-County, which left one person dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday after police received reports that one Okello Otim Samuel, a teacher at Abilonino Demonstration Primary School, had allegedly been caught attempting to defile a 14-year-old pupil.

According to police report, two officers who responded to the scene were reportedly overpowered by the mob and confined in the same house with the suspect, promoting a rescued team from Kole central police station to intervene.

During the rescued mission, the mob attacked the officers that were dispatched to rescue the confined officers with stones seriously injuring one officer and during the confrontation, police discharge live bullets killing a 28-year-old man identified as Morris Aluri and injuring a 15-year-old pupil identified as James Odongo and a 23-year-old man identified as Daniel Obong.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson confirmed the report saying the officers were rescued while the suspect Otim has been arrested and charged with aggravated defilement.

Police have opened a case of unlawful wounding and malicious damage to property, and opened investigation into the fatal shooting.
