Two arrested in Omoro over the Counterfeit Currency Money

Two people have been arrested in Omoro District on allegations of being in possession of counterfeit money.

The pair was picked from Labora Trading Center in Labora Sub County on Friday evening with counterfeit Ugandan shillings amounting to 350,000 shilling.

The fake money were in the denominations of 50,000 shillings.

The suspects whose names were not released by the police for fear that it will jeopardize their investigations into the matter are currently being held at Omoro Central Police Station.

Douglas Peter Okello, the Omoro District Chairperson told our reporter that the two men were arrested after they attempted to use the fake money to buy produce from local farmers.

He accordingly called on farmers to be on the lookout for fake money dealers to avoid being cheated.

It is illegal to create or distribute counterfeit money in Uganda.

The production and distribution of fake money is a serious crime that can result in significant fines and imprisonment.
