Police in Lamwo District are holding two suspected motorcycle thieves linked to an organized motorcycle theft syndicate operating in Gulu and Lira city. The suspects Kilama Robert and Oweka Gerald, both residents of Lwaya village in Palabek Ogili Sub County were arrested on Monday morning after they were found in possession of a stolen numberless motorcycle.
The arrests of Kilama and Oweka followed a robbery incident that occurred on Saturday from Lira City, where a boda boda rider, Okello Moses, was attacked with a hammer and his motorcycle Reg. No. UGH 245H, stolen.
Acting on intelligence, officers mounted a checkpoint at Apyeta Bridge on Monday evening and intercepted the suspects with the stolen motorcycle.
According to Police, a subsequent search at Oweka Gerald’s residence led to the recovery of another motorcycle, related documents, and several suspected stolen number plates, including UGF 193J, UGH 918M, UMA 367BC, UFS 918F, UGA 101H, and UGA 069H.
William Komakech, the Resident District Commissioner Lamwo who doubles as the chairperson District Security Committee, confirmed the report saying the suspects are currently detained at Lamwo district central police station.
