Amuru District Hit By Outbreak of Measles

An outbreak of measles has been confirmed in Okidi village, Atiak Sub County, Amuru district.

The viral disease was confirmed on Wednesday by the district health department after three children who presented with signs and symptoms of the disease tested positive.

Three patients have since been taken to Atiak Health Centre IV where their condition is being managed.

Dr. Okello Alfred, the Amuru District Health officer confirmed the report saying a team of surveillance officers have been dispatched on the ground to conduct surveillance.

The report comes a day after two children died as a result of suspected measles in Oraba Town Council, Koboko District.

Measles is a viral infection that starts in the respiratory system. It still remains a significant cause of death worldwide, despite the availability of a safe, effective vaccine.
