ICC Delivers Reparation Order on Dominic Ongwen’s Case

Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) have delivered orders for the reparations for individuals who suffered because of crimes committed by the former senior LRA Commander, Dominic Ongwen.

The judges at the ICC Trial Chamber IX delivered the order on Wednesday at a public hearing in Courtroom I at the seat of the Court in The Hague (Netherlands).

The victims of the LRA led war were awarded more than €52m (approximately UGX 222BN) by The Hague based court.

The order covers 49,772 people, including former child soldiers and children born out of rapes and forced marriages.

Ongwen, the ex-LRA Sinia Brigade Commander was found guilty of 61 crimes comprising crimes against humanity and war crimes, committed in Northern Uganda between July 1, 2002, and December 31, 2005.

On May 6, 2021, Trial Chamber IX sentenced Ongwen to 25 years of imprisonment.

He has since been transferred to a jail in Norway to serve his sentence.
